01-01 The new science of job hunting.
Millions of people still use old-style resumes, look for ads, do some networking, and send out a few resumes. They never really run a professional job search.
Most don’t realize that the job market has expanded to 30 million resumes in circulation, and record competition has largely obsoleted old job hunting methods.
Today, good ads can draw up to 200 or more candidates. What’s more, screening methods include video interviews, new personality and quickness tests, and instant social media checks can put a lot of pressure on people.
This remarkable online course can work for both young graduates and executives. It gives you dozens of new ideas, impressive new style resumes, powerful letters for all occasions and much more.
Perhaps, most importantly, many people who have a little time to really learn this subject, can reap benefits for many years to come.

01-02 The 10 mistakes millions make.
In this Career Pace report we’ll examine the 10 major job hunting mistakes that millions of people make. It is a popular part of our course. Once you have reviewed it, you’ll wonder why people ever allow themselves to make these mistakes.
This is especially true since people know how important finding the right new job can be to both them and their family. Yet, over 85% make many of these errors.
Unfortunately, at no stage of our life do we ever get fully educated on how to market ourselves— if we need a new job. And this includes our education in high school, college and graduate school.
However, regardless of your level, our New Science of Job Hunting Course is giving people a new level of education. You’ll enjoy this report and once you read it, you will never again make the same mistakes millions of others do

01-03 How the two job markets work.
This Career Pace report explains the two job markets—how they are formed and how they work. Job openings occur when events cause employers to decide to hire someone. Someone may have quit or been fired, or there can be many other reasons.
Typically, employers start by looking for people to promote from within. And, they look at resumes in their recruiting database, those referred by their staff and others who send in a resume at the right time.
When employers are trying to fill jobs this way, they are considered to be in the private job market. Only if these recruiting efforts fail does a job get turned over to recruiters or get advertised. Then, they are in the public job market, which is a much smaller market.
In our New Science of Job Hunting Course, this report covers how large each market is at different income levels, and you’ll be guided on where to focus your efforts

01-04 Top skills in demand.
This Career Pace report highlights many skills of professionals that are in demand today. Understanding your skills is a basic part of job hunting, but it is overlooked by millions of people.
And, that creates opportunity for you.People tend to sell their history and achievements, but rarely make clear the specific skills they can bring to a new employer.
You should know that when you sell skills—you can build your appeal far beyond what your formal credentials alone might imply. That’s because your skills are what employers buy, and will pay the most for, as they give the clearest reading of what you can do for them.
In this report, you’ll see over 200 skills and experience factors that are in demand today. Most people should identify from 8 to 12 that might apply to them. Do that and you’ll be on your way to making yourself a lot more marketable.

01-07 The best ways to answer ads.
This Career Pace report is about the best ways to answer ads. Responding to published advertisements is the most common way people look for jobs. But, here people get a very low percentage of offers from the actions they take. And there is a reason for this.
For a long time we also ran a recruitment advertising agency. And, the way people responded was extremely poor. Here, this report shares everything you may need to answer ads with more success. You’ll find our comments on:
- ...The best timing when answering ads.
- ...The written materials you should forward.
- ...The role of follow up.
- ...What you must get across.
- ...How many others might answer the same ad.
- ...The role of handwritten notes and much more.

01-08 How to find leads to private jobs.
This Career Pace report is about one of the key ways to find leads to private jobs. Every minute of the day, events occur that cause employers to look
for new people. These are reported online and in local and national publications. Many are signals of emerging jobs and that hiring will soon follow.
What kinds of events are we speaking of? Firms announcing expansions, new products, relocations, new executives and dozens of others.
Because of these events, employers can usually be expected to need people in sales, operations, marketing, finance and many other areas. The same information can help you find opportunities with a company’s suppliers, customers and even their competitors.
A key part of our New Science of Job Hunting Course is about finding private openings, something others rarely do, and this report shows you how to do it.

01-10 How to best use direct mail.
This Career Pace report is about how to use direct mail to get interviews. This report is based on principles used by top direct marketing firms. Here’s some of what we’ll review here.
The role of stand alone one page letters.
How to get mailings past gatekeepers.
The best timing for your materials to arrive and size of mailings
Telephone follow ups to make and the role of 2nd or 3rd mailings.
Contacting different executives in the same firm.
How to do semi-custom mailing campaigns and mail to board members.
Here, our New Science of Job Hunting is based on statistics and analytics, and they are the key to helping you. One major key is don’t do what everyone else does, and focus on things that put the odds in your favor.

01-09 Making the most of recruiters.
This report is about how to best use recruiters, firms who work for employers, and screen and recommend candidates. While they don’t work for job hunters, most are always looking for good talent, so you want a lot of them to know about you. Many fill jobs at $60,000 to $150,000. The top firms handle jobs at $150,000 to one million and above. Here we’ll cover:
...who does best with recruiters.
...the importance of regional firms in your area.
...how to make contact with them and how many.
...how to handle yourself with recruiters.
...the value of long term relationships.
...key guidelines about and expectations for resume mailings.
This Career Pace report can help all levels of professionals and executives do better with recruiters.

01-11 Networking made easier.
This is about easier networking. You can get interviews from networking even when you start with very few connections. This is because the growth of the Internet has led to a new era of networking. Here’s some of what we’ll review here.
Who should use a marketing website and when.
The fundamental networking guidelines.
Doing classical networking among those “you know.”
Doing classical networking among those you “do not know.”
Networking an easier way is an important part of Our New Science of Job Hunting Course.

01-20 Phone power gets interviews.
This report is about how others have used the phone as a better way to get interviews. Of course, some people are totally relaxed using the phone. But others never are willing to try to use the phone to get interviews.
Many of these people could have gotten employed, but stay inactive rather than working on their phone skills. Here you’ll find proven scripts for making it a lot easier.
You’ll get 12 remarkable Career Pace guidelines for initiating positive discussions. And you’ll get 10 suggestions for handling people who screen your calls, and 4 different ways to initiate your conversations are provided.
Also supplied are scripts for openings after reaching the right person, and ways to turn rejections into interviews. In short, the scripts you’ll see are the key. Thousands who have used our New Science of Job Hunting Course have refined their phone skills and gotten improved results. It’s surprising how many can do this well, once they put their mind to it.

How to get a job created.
Here, we’ll discuss how you can get a job created, even when no opening previously existed.
Now, it may seem obvious, but you simply need to present yourself as a solution to a problem... or a way to help the company with an opportunity. So, you have to cite a problem or an opportunity for each employer you contact.
In recent years we’ve seen employers create good jobs to bring younger professionals on— including graduates and others in their 20s or early 30s....but also mid-level staff and executives.
Once of the reasons this works, is that when there is no recruiting expense involved, it occurs in small companies with much more frequency.
Here, our New Science of Job Hunting Course shows how this approach can be considered by anyone and at any income level.

01-16 Game plan for getting interviews.
This report is about the major advantage you can gain by running your search with a good game plan. A game plan is a bullet list of actions you plan on taking to get interviews.
It eliminates any need for trial and error job hunting. Instead you rely on a variety of ways you select for getting interviews, and that will raise your chances for success.
But over 95% of all job seekers never use a game plan, and just try hit or miss approaches. And, it is a key reason why so many fail.
However, when people market themselves with a good game plan, and a variety of ways for getting interviews, some have gotten up to 5 to 7 times more activity. And, they never waste time by wondering “what do I do next?” This Career Pace report shows you how others have done it.

01-27 The role of marketing websites.
Can a marketing website help you get more interviews? As this Career Pace report explains, when it comes to some ways to get interviews, the answer for some people is yes.
Good marketing websites are easy to do, but they’re not yet effective for all purposes or for people at all incomes.
Here are some requirements. First, you need a good resume as the centerpiece. Otherwise, your website won’t be effective. Second, you need a website that projects the right image that you feel others will find attractive. And, third, you need a plan for getting key people to look at it.
In our New Science of Job Hunting Course, this report will discuss what some others have done.

Sources for finding executives to contact.
Here you can access a directory of databases for finding executives to contact by direct mail.
You probably already know that we recommend that everyone seeking a new position— make contact with their best employer prospects.
And, you might also choose to network certain key employers, and need some of these sources. We have seen many professional do that successfully.
There are more than 80 national databases listed in this Career Pace report.
They’ll help you as sources for developing mailing lists of employer prospects to contact.

02-01 What’s wrong with 95% of all resumes.
Chances are your resume can be 4, 5 or even 6 to 10 times more effective. Why? That is what this Career Pace report is about.
In recent years both the job market and recruiting processes have changed significantly. And, of course, the number of resumes circulated exceeds the imagination. Many well-known firms have invented new processes to simply handle the numbers of resumes they receive.
This report will share 10 key recommendations from our New Science of Job Hunting Course. They’ll make sure you don’t make any of these resume mistakes that others make every day, and the ideas are clear and easy to put into action.

02-02 Creating new style resumes.
This report can dramatically improve your odds for success. It’s about creating outstanding new style resumes. Here are some facts of interest.
Today, Procter & Gamble is said to receive 1,000,000 resumes annually but hires only 1 in 500. And Apple receives 4,200,000 but hires only 1 in 2,100. Others such as Google, Intel and Starbucks receive over 3,000 resumes daily. When running ads many employers now get 200 or more applicants. Some leading recruiters say they receive over 1,500 resumes a work day.
In this Career Pace report, you’ll see exactly how you can create an outstanding new style resume.
This is a very important part of our New Science of Job Hunting Course, and by using new style resumes people from all fields and at all incomes have achieved better results. It can probably do the same for you.

The incredible power of biographies.
This Career Pace report will explain why executives select biographies as their resume of choice. The main reasons is that biographies allow you to convey the strongest story of the benefits you can bring... which creates “great value.” And, biographies have proven instrumental in getting executives outstanding jobs.
Our staff has developed biographies for executives as diverse as a foreign ambassador, numerous C-level executives, high-ranking military officers, chancellors of major universities, senior HR executives and others. Even for our highly experienced writers, the process takes two to three days for creative work, multiple drafts, final edits and approval by our executive review board.

03-07 The creative package for executives.
If you are an executive you should carefully review what we consider to be the world’s best creative package for executives.
In this Career Pace report you’ll see the critical importance of using a quality package of creative materials and not just a single resume. The example you’ll see here is about an impressive person who struggled for over a year without any quality interviews.
However, when we designed a full package of new materials, he went on to receive 25 calls about viable situations in less than 120-days.
In this report you’ll see his original resume and the package of 5 new presentations. Compare his original resume with his new creative package, and consider the advantage that a similar package might give to you.

03-01 1-page universal resumes.
This Career Pace report gives you samples of one-page universal resumes that have worked. They are distinctly different from what others use.
First, recognize that your resume must get noticed. So, a great image and an easy-to-read look is essential. Then, in a 30 second summary, your highlights must shine through.
Never try to sell everything about yourself! Since this will be your initial resume or getting interviews, it must be a quick read and a good advertisement for you, your skills and what you can deliver.
From the outstanding samples in our report just adapt the format that feels best for your story and follow our guidelines. With these samples to copy from you’ll have a very impressive resume. The result, over 95% tell us they’ve created their best resume ever.

03-02 The quick response resume.
With today’s record competition, and the number of resumes being sent to employers, it has become increasingly difficult to get through to executive decision makers.
Over some years, after a considerable amount of market testing, we designed a style of resume that has rather consistently shown some ability to get
through to executives. Basically, it is a resume is for getting past gatekeepers.
We call it a Quick Response Resume.
Essentially, it positions the text toward the right-hand side of the page so you have room to write a personal hand written note to a person, and then send the resume without a cover letter.
Needless to say anything personal is better than something that appears like an impersonal form letter. But, you will still need an appealing story which
is sent to the right person at the right time, and with the right personal note.

03-03 Narrative resumes.
With record competition, we’ve come to believe in narrative resumes which are simply one page resumes communicated in the form a personal letter. Some people call these letter-resumes.
At Career Pace, based on seeing thousands of these used by a wide range of professionals and executives across all income levels, there is little question that they can work better then sending traditional materials.
However, like all communications, we suggest that people give this type of document some serious thought concerning the message to put across, who will be contacted and when.
Besides some samples in this report you should also review our separate report on direct mail marketing.

03-04 Resumes for large mailings.
One of the major concerns with doing mailings is the financial cost of getting mailings done and getting them out the door. We’ve grappled with this issue for years, because in many respects, large direct mailing campaigns for people at all levels may still offer the easiest and quickest way to produce interview activity.
Even the U.S. Government in their handouts to people at all levels seeking new jobs, strongly recommends going directly to employers.
Traditionally, the response is low but when you reach an executive at the right time, and he or she wants to know more about you, there is a high closing rate when it comes to converting to offers. That’s because there is normally less competition for what are predominantly private openings.
To facilitate larger mailings at lower costs, we have had good results from 3-column one-page resumes which combine a personal letter with a brief resume and do not require a cover letter. And, they can be mailed first class for one postage stamp. You’ll find the samples in this Career Pace report.

Contemporary resumes.
This Career Pace report is about samples of contemporary resumes that have a growing appeal to certain people... while others prefer conservative approaches.
What caused this shift? The growth of LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms who feature photographs and use color.
Could sending out 100 or 200 of these more dramatic resumes help you? We suggest you look them over and see if they could get you more activity.
Only a very small percentage use resumes in color right now, but some people swear by them because of the results they’ve experienced. There is little doubt that these resumes are very likely to get noticed among a stack of 200.
You’ll enjoy looking at the 25 interesting samples in this report. All of these need to be printed in color and have proven effective when used by others.

02-05 About using photos on resumes.
Selecting the right style of photograph to use on your resume is a big decision. This will guide you. Obviously, you can’t just throw any picture of yourself on documents which are so important to your career. While this is inexpensive to get done, there are some issues to decide.
Should this be a typical head shot or show you in an activity at work? Should you be in casual or business formal clothes? What sort of angle makes you look your best? And, should you have a smile, or be more restrained?
The key point here is you need to decide in advance on the poses you will be shooting. So, take a look at the broad range of photos we’ve included.
This subject is part of our New Science of Job Hunting Course, because we have found that if people do this right they get much better results.

04-02 Letter mistakes millions make.
This Career Pace report covers 10 major letter writing mistakes to avoid.
It wasn’t too long ago that when people looked for a job, they’d just review ads in their local newspaper. That is the way things were for decades until the 21st century came along with high speed Internet.
This also brought other changes people needed to adapt to. Two of these were the huge numbers of resumes put into circulation, and the need for people seeking new jobs to send out excellent letters.
As you can imagine, writing superior letters is not easy. That’s why we put so many good letter samples in our New Science of Job Hunting Course. So, avoid the 10 major letter mistakes we discuss and copy or adapt the letters you need from the strong samples we provide.

05-02 Sponsored letters to employers.
Making use of sponsored letters can be a highly effective approach for certain executives, but also can work for certain select younger and mid-level professionals.
A sponsored letter is generally a one-page letter written on the letterhead of a third party, and sent to individual decision makers who might have a need for your talent.
Rather than you writing on behalf of yourself, this is a little like your having an agent summarize powerful and positive things about you—and then bring them to the attention of another executive who might have a need for you.
We have had a lot of experience with this method of personal marketing, and can recommend that many people may find it worthwhile to look into. Our report which shares samples of these types of letters, may be a spark for your development of a new personal marketing strategy for yourself.

05-01 Direct letters to employers.
If you are familiar with our New Science of Job Hunting Course, you know we strongly believe in sending out good letters. Sending letters to your best prospects can be very effective.
We’ve also found that it pays to follow up your letter with a phone call. And with large organizations, we’ve learned that sending letters to different executives in the same firm can work. Letters you send to employers are important, so in this Career Pace report just adapt from the wide range of letter samples we give you.
Also, before writing employers, be sure to review our separate report on direct mail to employers.

05-05 Letters for sending to openings.
In this Career Pace report you’ll see some sample letters that people used effectively when answering ads. Now, each year hundreds of millions of responses are sent in answer to ads. The only constant when you answer an opening— is the large number of other candidates who will be competing with you.
In the case of attractive ads, employers often receive 100, 200 or more responses. When this occurs, employers try and narrow things down to a manageable number of candidates to consider. So, they look first at responses to eliminate, rather than trying to determine who might be the best prospects.
For some people, this is a good reason to consider using a letter instead of a resume in your initial response. There’s no question that you’ll find these sample letters helpful. Also be sure to review our separate report on best ways to answer ads.

05-04 Letters for networking acquaintances.
We believe in not only networking your own contacts, but also executives in industries of interest that you don’t yet know. Here you can take advantage of our samples of proven networking letters.
All of these letters should be clear and follow our guidelines. They also need to be designed to impress people with a simple message. Whether you attach a resume or biography will depend on your preference with each individual.
For people at all levels, we’ve found that sending out networking letters can lay the groundwork for a productive follow up call. And, it’s much better than just making “cold calls.”
Of course, there is much more about networking as covered in our other Career Pace reports on this subject. And, they can also be vital to your success.

05-07 Letters for setting up references.
This report gives you sample letters to attract references. You know that positive references can make all the difference in the world.
Normally, your most important references will be the person you directly reported to, and if possible their superiors.
When selecting other references, try to use people with a good title, people who are respected and whose judgments are likely to be valued by others. And try to avoid people who do not communicate well. What people say is important, but their enthusiasm and conviction is even more important.
Of course, there is much more to having references work for you in our other reports in our New Science of Job Hunting Course. You can definitely gain an advantage by putting out letters like the ones you’ll see in this Career Pace report.

05-08 Follow-up letters to interviews.
This Career Pace report provides sample letters for follow up. Now these letters are far more important than you may realize.
You work hard to get a good interview and make a good impression, and want to get the next interview. But five eto seven others are also probably under consideration.
Here are some things to consider in your follow up. Compliment the person for the time they took, and give some positive comments on the firm. And, in your letter, mention your skills that would enable you to contribute quickly in the job.
Stressing intangibles can also work. Here, we mean your passion, energy, work ethic and integrity, And also your ability to find problems and fix them. Coming across as excited, enthusiastic and sincere is also important. By giving you excellent follow up letters to copy, this report makes doing it this much easier.

05-03 Letters when no prior response.
This Career Pace report provides you with sample letters for following up on contacts that you’ve initiated, but which failed to deliver the return call you hoped for.
Obviously, anyone who has been involved with sales or direct marketing has learned that a single attempt at making a sale, is never a wise strategy of an by itself. To profitably maximize revenues, many attempts usually prove worthwhile.
When you do a marketing campaign to find a new job, you are in much the same situation as any major marketer of consumer products or services. The reality is that continuous efforts to make contact with organizations which are high probability prospects can and will work for many people.
With that in mind, in this report, you’ll see some sample letters that others used effectively in their efforts to generate favorable response.

05-06 Letters for sending to leads.
When you identify leads to special situations—possibilities that may be likely to have positions of interest to you, most people would agree that those leads can be quite valuable.
So, the next step will be to think through your strategy on how to initiate contact that will result in an interview. With that in mind, here we provide sample letters that others effectively used to initiate contact with leads, that seemed to have some personal promise for them

04-01 How to create power letters.
The ability to write quality letters is important in a job search. For example, great letters can get people to call you, but they always don’t need to say much about you. So, here we’ll share a few things we’ve learned in the course of writing tens of thousands of “stand-alone marketing letters.”
One key is to get across to select employers exactly how your talents could be of immediate help. Now, writing objectively about yourself can be difficult.
Why? Well, you have to summarize the unique value you bring to the table and in a way that gets people to act on your message. So, for best results, each letter should be custom tailored to each person.
So, be sure to review this Career Pace report carefully. Then copy from letters that worked for others in the many reports with samples in our New Science of Job Hunting Course.

Now, each year a billion responses are sent in answer to ads. The only constant when you answer an opening— is the large number of other candidates who will be competing with you.
In the case of attractive ads, employers often receive 100, 200 or more responses. When this occurs, employers try and narrow things down to a manageable number of candidates to consider. So, they look first at responses to eliminate... rather than selecting.
For some people, this is a good reason to consider using a letter instead of a resume in your initial response. There’s no question that you’ll find these sample letters helpful. Also be sure to review our separate report on best ways to answer ads.

Great sample letters for follow up.
This Career Pace report provides sample letters for follow up. Now these letters are far more important than you may realize.
You work hard to get a good interview and make a good impression, and want to get the next interview. But 5 others are also probably under consideration.
Here are some things to consider in your follow up. Compliment the person for the time they took, and give your positive comments of the firm.
By giving you excellent follow up letters to copy, this report makes doing it easy.

Talented people often take interviews for granted. And, we’ve found that upwards of 80% believe that if they can just get the interviews, they’ll get the job. Now, they know they work hard to get the right interviews. But when it comes down to the final stages, many don’t realize they are probably up against 5 to 7 talented others.
This report addresses the major mistakes people make which get them ruled out. When it happens in the final stages, it can be quite a set back and sometimes a crushing blow to what they were counting on.
Fortunately, they are mistakes that are easily rectified. Some of the items we comment on are also discussed in other full Career Pace reports on interviewing.

06-02 Building maximum chemistry.
In this Career Pace report, we’ll discuss building personal chemistry with everyone you meet. When it comes down to a few candidates, competence is rarely the issue. Chemistry is where it’s at.
Last year there were upwards of more than a billion interviews, and no two were the same. So how do you prepare? We believe you should compare this to a sports contest—there were millions of them, and none were the same.
In an interview or a contest, you can’t plan exactly how things will go— but you can have a strategy aimed at making things go your way. Here we’ll share how you can easily build more chemistry with everyone. Our recommendation at any income level is to just follow eight simple steps. Many people say they reviewed this New Science of Job Hunting report several times.

06-17 How to handle any objection.
In this Career Pace report, you’ll discover how to handle any objection with a unque approach we created. It helps you deal with any challenging objection.
Sometimes an interview may be going smoothly until the interviewer points out a negative. Many people then become defensive. Some even become argumentative or contradict the interviewer.
However, whether they are right or wrong, in that very instant they have probably lost any chance for getting a job offer. The reason is obvious. Job offers are not made because someone gives 100% correct answers to each question.
They’re made because positive chemistry was established. Remember, you are selling, and no one ever sells anything while arguing with people. To avoid that trap, review our proven approach that has helped thousands of people handle objections and turn these situations into attractive offers.

06-03 The right body language.
This Career Pace report will help you avoid bad body language, and project positive body language that helps get you the job. How important is your body language in interviews? The answer— very important! And it starts when you first walk into an office and meet the receptionist.
One of our staff once told me about a man who looked very distinguished. But, five minutes later he was slumped down in one of our sofas, and giving off the kind of image he should have avoided. Of course, body language is not just about giving off negatives. You want your body language to project positive imagery which will help you win offers.
People really enjoy this part of our New Science of Job Hunting Course, and you’ll learn how to make the most of body language in your job search. For some it can prove invaluable.

06-04 Interview questions to expect.
In this Career Pace report, you’ll find most questions our clients have to answer during interviews. And, you’ll also see some sample responses.
Many people lose out in interviews because of three things... hesitancy, lack of poise and lack of preparation. But, as you’ll see in this report, you’ll be a lot more relaxed and far more effective if you keep in mind some simple rules. Here are a few.
Never be negative about your employer. And when asked what you can do, be confident, but don’t overpromise. And if asked for your major weakness, appear mortal. Give a weakness which really isn’t much of a weakness.
And, always expect these two questions... “aside from what’s in your resume, tell me about yourself.” And, “how long would it take for you to contribute on a high level.” Of course, there are dozens more in this discussion that will help. Being prepared here will definitely pay off

There is no question these interviews can be intimidating and they take some time to get used to. However, Career Pace has developed an insightful report that can lift your skill here.
If you combine it with our report on questions to expect, it can give you a big advantage and allow you to quickly master the video interviews you’re likely to encounter

06-14 Letter response to a high offer.
When executives receive an offer, they have usually been told that an offer will be forthcoming so they are expecting to get the offer in writing. However, sometimes the offer is extended verbally.
Regardless of the way the offer is made, it is in your best interest to say you’d like some time to think it over or to discuss it with your partner, and ask them to confirm it in writing. Now, the higher you go, the more complicated offers can be, and it is not unusual for there to be a number of back and forth letters and discussions.
We have found that best results are achieved when you negotiate things in writing, rather than in a verbal discussion. And, for that reason, we provide a report which will give you an idea of what may be involved in drafting such a letter.
Needless to say, the words and phrases you use, and the tone you might communicate in each point can become critical here.

your future?

In today’s world, more women are returning to the job market. Some do this after years of being a homemaker.
Of course, when it comes to job hunting, there are a number of key challenges they often face including how to do a search.
However, a more key initial concern, and our focus here, is to give you ideas on the jobs which interested others like you. After that, other parts of our New Science of Job Hunting Course will show you how to do a highly effective job search.

08-10 Working from home jobs.
This Career Pace report is about the pluses and minuses of workingfrom- home jobs. At the beginning of 2020, the number of people working
from home were said to be from a low of 10 million to a high of 15 million.
That was out of a total full time work force of 157 million.
Then, the COVID-19 Pandemic brought lock-downs and social distancing that forced many more people to work from home. Some of those have already returned to working from their offices.
Nevertheless, major employers are predicting that the permanent level of people who work from home will stabilize at 20 million, and some forecast even higher numbers.
This report will be helpful for those who may be considering offers where they will work at home, either full time or on a part time or hybrid basis.

08-11 How to handle liabilities.
This Career Pace report is part of our New Science of Job Hunting Course because of the importance of overcoming liabilities. These can include being unemployed, having age concerns, lacking a degree, being too long in a firm or industry, being too specialized and more.
The good news is that if you have a liability that might restrict you, then you should know there are marketing solutions that can overcome almost any type of liability in a job search.
We suggest you start by making a list of career problems that might restrict your success. Then think through how to best minimize or neutralize the impact of that liability in your search.
This Career Pace report will give you a fast start regarding things others did to minimize liabilities in all written and verbal communications. They can be key factors in your having a successful job search.

08-12 Changed jobs too much.
It’s common to change jobs more frequently than in the past. Still, if you’ve changed too much that can be a problem. Why? Many employers will look at you with skepticism.
Some will immediately rule you out due to a perceived lack of stability. And, most employers will want to know why you made each change. And, some will review your background and have this concern. “I’m worried that in a little while he might be off to something else again.”
Fortunately, regardless of concerns employers express, we’ve helped clients come up with communicative solutions that present them in a different and more favorable light. In this Career Pace report we review some of them.

01-18 Setting the right goals.
This Career Pace report is about the importance of setting your right job title goals. It may surprise you, but many people look for the wrong position titles. For example, if you are a banker, you may think your career is locked in to that job title. But many people have different careers over a lifetime.
So, you might consider positioning yourself for more than one goal and doing separate “dual job campaigns”— with different job title goals.
Or you may wish to run a search for a higher paying job as a “sales producer,” while also exploring slightly lesser income potential in “sales administration.”
Many people develop specialized careers, but later move into a variety of mainstream occupations. So, as you review possible goals for yourself, consider your interests, passions and experiences across a broad range, as well as all your skills. Are there some different job titles you might want to pursue?

08-13 Critical advice for specialists.
This Career Pace report covers advice for specialists. Now especially in technical areas, people are often labeled as specialists.
And, sometimes, when you are good at something the company needs done, they’ll want you to do that exclusively. There is nothing wrong with that, until you look for a new job, and get the objection that you are too specialized.
You appear less proficient in other functions, because you took care of what your employer needed. The reality is you bring to the table the talents and know-how developed over several types of positions.
Your broader experience, regardless of when it was, is just as valid as what you’ve been doing. Specialized experience can also add to your appeal, but you can’t let it overshadow other things of value. You’ll find some solutions in this report.

08-14 Critical advice for generalists
This Career Pace report is for professionals who may be generalists. Few of us start out thinking, “I’ll be a generalist,” or “I’ll be a specialist.”
Nevertheless, generalists never build skills that make them marketable later on. So, calling yourself a “generalist” will not be an asset unless you move up in management.
For example, a general manager needs to be a generalist. For others, the label can be a liability, as you may be seen as having no “practical” value.
Today, employers want people with the skills to deliver right away. You can counteract this liability if it is a concern for you. Remember, your experience is composed of many things—each using certain skills, talents and knowledge.
So, you’ve probably gotten where you are by doing many functions, some specialized. If being a generalist is a worry, our report reviews some possible solutions

08-15 Too long in a firm or industry?
If you have been too long in one firm or industry, it can be a liability when you look for a new job. The main danger you face is not doing anything. And at some age, your marketability may decline with every extra year you wait.
Until the past few decades, staying with one company for years was a sign of loyalty, stability and pride. Now it isn’t. In our fast-paced, youth-oriented era of information technology, if you haven’t moved in a long time you may be seen as not keeping up.
Some employers might infer that you are inflexible, lack ambition or are not in tune with the pace of developments. The fortunate part is that this type of problem can always be solved with better communication.
In this Career Pace report you’ll find some practical solutions for this type of concern.

The true power of biographies.
Also review our separate report on top samples of biographies. And as you draft your biography, approach your effort with the special level of attention this commanding document deserves.

06-16 Lifting your self esteem.
This Career Pace report will share ways to improve your self esteem and have it help you in your job search.
What’s the difference between self-esteem and self confidence? Well, you can feel self confidant about situations you fully understand. For example, you can be an athlete and feel you can run a 100 yards faster than a competitor because you did it in the past. So, you’re very confident. On the other hand, you still might have low self-esteem.
Some define it as your feelings about yourself, and your relation to friends, competitors, business associates and more.
In this Career Pace report, we share what we’ve learned about how to lift your self-esteem to higher levels and how to do it in the short term. These ideas can have clear benefits in a job search

06-07 Projecting the right image.
In this Career Pace report, our focus is on the image you project. And, we’ve mentioned before that your image speaks before you say a word.
For women, clothes tell the employer how you see yourself. Your hairstyle and your choice of makeup either reinforces or detracts from your image.
And, the accessories you choose—shoes, purse, jewelry—make a further statement about your awareness of that image. Of course, there is no single look for all women. Guidelines about dress have become much more flexible, and vary from one organization to another.
For men, “presence” involves not only appearance, but sends a message about your self-confidence and knowledge. Looking good means feeling good and feeling confident. So, do this while reflecting a personality that fits the situation. Image isn’t everything—but it counts!

07-09 What if a search starts slowly?

Now instead of a fast start, in about 10% of the situations, people find themselves getting off to a slower start than hoped for. In fact, some feel a great let down. Now, if this happens to you, don’t let it throw you off balance.

07-10 How to fix a failing search.
This discussion is about how to fix a failing search. It takes you through every factor you should look at. Essentially, it forces you to make some decisions—by putting a check mark next to factors worth a review.
One of the most obvious things people do is to change their creative materials. That can quickly open the door to better results. It’s like a firm replacing average ads with great ones.
Another major point is some people think they’ve run a professional search, but actually fell back on old style job hunting. In addition, many forget how important it is to uncover private openings.
Now some also try to put a band aid on a search that did not work. However minor fixes rarely work out. So, re-energize yourself by adapting what best fits you in this critical Career Pace report.

This Career Pace report is about what to do if you accepted a job that turns out to be a mistake. The U.S. Labor Department tells us that people change jobs more than once every four years, an average of 12 times in the course of a career.
As you might expect, younger people change more frequently.
And each year in the U.S., more than a million people who begin a new job — soon feel the change was a mistake. Here, we’ll review what we’ve learned from others who felt taking their new job was a mistake. And, we’ll suggest a range of ideas on how to avoid this whole concern.

01-25 How to job hunt in a recession.
It is important to realize that unemployment rates were not designed to be a measure of the job market for any individual. And therein lies a problem. Why? Because many assume the unemployment rate has a major bearing on them.
The reality for individuals is often different. Recessions can have a big impact on certain industries, but often other industries will be only minimally effected.

Millions accept new positions at all income levels every month. With the huge number of job changes that take place, obviously there is no one formula that will help everyone do well—in their first 90 days.
Nevertheless, our experience indicates that many can take some simple steps to start off very well. Starting over is a rare opportunity to create a new view of yourself... and get new people to view you in an even more favorable way.

Why? In some cases, there will be concerns about whether you may go back into your own business. Potential new employers will also be assessing, in the back of their minds, whether you would be a team player.

Growth industries in the U.S.
This Career Pace report is about 200 fast growing industries in the U.S. These industries are expected to add jobs in many areas. Compared to 10 or 20 years ago, moving into a new industry has gotten much easier, as most jobs are created by small and mid-sized businesses.
If you choose the right industry, you may have a chance for much more growth in less time. Employers in growth industries can rarely find enough people with experience in their industry, so they often look outside of their firm for the best natural talent.
In recent years, many growth industries have emerged. This report shows 200 industries forecasted by financial analysts to be possibly exciting growth situations. They claim these represent about 33% of emerging industries which may experience superior growth.
If the analysts are correct, firms in these industries are likely to be in expansion mode. So, if making an industry change is a goal, some may be worth
your checking out.

Now, it may seem obvious, but you simply need to present yourself as a solution to a problem or a way to help the company with an opportunity. So, you have to cite a problem or an opportunity when contacting each employer.
In recent years we’ve seen employers create good jobs to bring younger professionals on— including graduates and others in their 20s or early 30s, but also mid-level staff and executives.
One of the reasons this works, is that when there is no recruiting expense involved, it occurs in small companies with much more frequency.
Here, our New Science of Job Hunting Course shows how this approach can be considered by any professional, manager or executive and at any income level.
